Cultural Safari to Southwest & Omo Valley Region




Day1: Arrive Addis Ababa– Met by our staff member and transfer to hotel. Balance of the day site seeing in the capital and visit mount Entoto with a commanding view over to the town, church of St Mary, Entoto museum with a collection of royal objects and the grass thatched roof palace of king Menilk the 2nd of Ethiopia. Then back to the city for an extra visit of the National museum, Markato and so on. Over night hotel.
Day2: Addis Ababa-Jimma– after break fast drive form Addis Ababa to Jima crossing the Gebe river valley. Lunch on the way or picnic. Late in the afternoon arrive in Jima and visit Jimma Museum. Over night hotel.
Day3: Jimma-Mizan Teferi– third day drive to one of the 2 small towns. Early Morning, drive to Jimma Abajifar palace and procced to Mizan Teferi/Bonga. On the way visit villages and stop at Gumoro Tea plantation farm. Ater Lunch in Bonga drive to Sore water fall then continue to Mizan Teferi or sleep in Bonga. Over night hotel.
Day4: Mizan Teferi-Tum– Drive from Mizant Teferi-Tum (260kms), stop at some village’s tribes of Menit, Dizziy and Surma villages. If Saturday visit market in Tum and late in the afternoon drive to the colour ful Maji market to see Surmma, Dizziy and Menit Tribes. Over night camping.
Day5: Tum-Kibish- Drive from Tum-Kibish on the way visit the Koka village where the Surmma are living. Then late in the afternoon, walk aroung the village of Tulgit where most of the time stick fighting ceremony or Donga is going on. Over night camping.
Day6: Kibish– full day in kibish, in the morning go to one of the Summa houses and see live ox/cow blood sucking and Tattoo making. After lunch in the afternoon, more sightseeing of one or two villages of Surma people who are photogenic society. Over night camping.
Day7: Kibish-Bume/Nyangatom- after breakfast packs your luggage then drive to Bume with a stop at Kakuta village where the Nyangatom people are living. They are mainly women known for huge pile of beads on their necks. Over night camping.
Day8: Bume-Turmi– early breakfast and drive to Turmi via Omo national park, Dus and Karo villages. Visit Karo people either in Dus or Karo villages they are similar tribes known for body painting and scarifications. Over night lodge.
Day9: Turmi- full day in Turmi with day trip to Omorate village to see the Dassenche people living on the other side of Omo River. Cross the river by wooden boat and approach to their small village with a population of not more than 1000 people. Back to Turmi and late afternoon visit the Hamer village and market on every Monday, if available visit bull-jumping ceremony. Over night lodge.
Day10: Turmi- Jinka- late breakfast then precede Jinka town with stop at any available market places. Turmi market on Monday, Dimeka market on Saturday, Alduba market on Tuesday, Keyafer madrket on Thursday and Jinka market on Saturday. Late afternoon visits Ari village that are living all round Jinka town. Over night hotel.
Day11: Jinka-konso– early breakfast then go to Mursi village living in Mago NP. Then back Jinka for lunch and proceed to Konso village with a short stop at Keyafer market falling on every Thursday market. On arrival in Konso, walk through the beautiful villages of the Konso people who are mainly known for terracing work. Over night lodge.
Day12: Konso-Arbminch-Addis Ababa- early breakfast then visit Konso village, world cultural heritage site then heads to Arbaminch to for the flight to Addis Ababa. On arrival in Addis Ababa do more sightseeing activities including shopping and city tour then after farewell dinner in one of the traditional restaurants, drop off at the airport for your flight homeward. End of the tour.
